$6,600 Expenses For a One-Day Assembly At a Fully-Paid-Up Hall? WTF!

the wife just got back from a one-day special circuit meeting (or whatever they call it) at the regional assembly hall.

it's got a capacity of about 1,200, fully paid for, staffed by volunteers and in use for less than eight hours.

then the guy making the announcement tells the crowd that the one-day expenses for the gig was about $6,600 (?!!!)...

I wish they would just charge each person as they walked in the door. "It will be $100.00 per person today to pay for the use of the assembly hall. A family of five would need $500.00 to be allowed in.

That would really bring it home how outright money grubbers they really are.

Maybe some would have to just skip it because they couldn't afford it.

I've heard so many times that the WBTS doesn't charge us, yet allows us to sit in stadium seats that would cost a few hundred dollars if used at a sporting event. How special?

Please, just charge everyone upfront so they will have time to meditate on it throughout the day. They may choose to stay home the next day.

Saw a jw there. We didn't get within speaking distance. Only one I saw there with a dress shirt and tie on.

Latest album, Approaching Normal, is pretty good. Does have one song that is kinda rough.

Cult control is very effective. Breaking the spell is not easy and even when you do, the game is not over.

Scream and yell. Will anyone listen or will they just run for safety?

It would be great to see people just get up and call bullshit and walk out and everyone slowly follow.

June 15 Study WT - Faithful Steward and its GB

from what i can tell, there was some discussion out here on this article about a month ago, but at that time few folks had their copy to look at (we just received it last week at our hall).

now that most jw's have their copy, there has been a lot of discussion about it - at least here, that is.

as was mentioned already, this is definitely a follow up to the 5/1/07 qfr "when does the callling of christians to a heavenly hope cease?

I don't think Paul would agree that he had to be approved by the gb in Jerusalem. He seemed to have his own opinions and definately was chosen by Christ directly.

They twist the scriptures to come up with the most contorted concepts. They used to say there were 2 heavenly classes, one more faithful than the other. Maybe it's time to drag that nonsense out of the closet again.

I hope the partakers grow at such a fast rate the next few years so that they have to stand on their heads to think of the next explanation.

in reading witnessoo7 thread, i wondered this.. if two names are announced as df'd, even though the df might be for separate infractions, aren't people going to "assume" that the reason is because of some immoral association between the two people announced?.

if more than one name is announced as df'd at a meeting, is it not suspect that all names mentioned are in cahoots of "associated sin" ?.

has it ever happened in your hall where two names were announced as df'd and people assumed they had "sinned together" and it turned out to be df'd for 2 non-related "sins"?.

Cameo-d, I know of an instance where 3 people were announced dfd or reproved on the same night and there was no relation. You are right, most expected it was because of something they were all involved in, but it was separate infractions.

It kept the jws gossiping for a while.

More old testament examples of fear and submission. Do they ever get tired of this? When a snot-nosed elder who has little experience in life tells you how to run your marriage or raise your kids, it gets a little hard to pretend the "counsel" is beneficial. Delusional.

Thanks for the discussion, Poppers. I have been drawn to this for a while. I used to talk to James Thomas about it. Miss his posts. Suffering was really the main reason that I felt deeply that no "religion" had what I was looking for.
